First Appointment

Your first appointment will be one of the following...

BRIEF APPOINTMENT WITH A STAFF MEMBER

For additional x-rays or testing if indicated, registration and health history, or medications (for pain, infection, or oral sedation) prior to your treatment appointment.

CONSULTATION APPOINTMENT WITH A DOCTOR

Many situations require evaluation, testing, or an explanation of your treatment options in order for you to be able to choose the best course of treatment. This is a 30-minute appointment reserved with Dr. Carman to thoroughly evaluate your situation, discuss options, and answer your questions. Treatment will not be recommended unless the need for it is determined with certainty.

We appreciate the inconvenience of scheduling a separate appointment for this.  But when needed, this separate appointment is vital to determine the need for treatment or to confirm which tooth needs treatment. In compromised teeth, it is also important that you be aware of other options so that you can decide which option is best for YOU.

TREATMENT APPOINTMENT

In some cases, the tooth needing treatment and the type of treatment needed can be determined from the history and x-rays.  For these cases, the first appointment may be to initiate treatment. In a few cases, treatment can be completed in one visit. In most cases, two or more visits will be needed. The first visit is typically an hour and the second visit varies from 1 to 2.5 hours depending on the tooth and the complexity of the particular case.

EMERGENCY APPOINTMENT

Some root canal problems can result in severe pain as well as swelling and fever that can deteriorate into a medical emergency. In these cases, we may need to see you for an emergency visit between regularly scheduled patients, during lunch, or after hours.
